Amy Ewen

Born in Hampshire, Amy was first introduced to the world of brass at the age of 8, when she started playing the euphonium under the guidance of Simon Wyld. She joined the North East Hampshire Area School’s Concert Band at the age of 10, where she held the Principal Euphonium seat for 4 years, alongside being a member of the Hampshire County Youth Brass Band, where in 2015, was appointed Solo Baritone.

During her two years of studying music and photography at Alton College, she was awarded the George Hellar Musician’s Scholarship alongside being a Hampshire Music Hub Scholar in composition. A musical highlight during 2014-2016 was spending a summer touring the UK with The Ollie West Band as part of the horn section.

Amy played Euphonium for The Staffordshire Band for just under a year, before being offered the Solo Baritone seat. She was a member of the committee and thoroughly enjoyed experiencing “proper banding” (contesting) for the first time with Staffs.

Currently, Amy studies at Birmingham Conservatoire under the tutorage of Matthew White. Amy is the Solo Baritone of the Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band, conducted by Ian Porthouse. Achievements with Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band include placing 2nd at Uni Brass, playing in her first Whit Friday Marches and performing alongside Tredegar Town Band in a joint concert to finish her first year at Birmingham Conservatoire.
