A very special concert will be given by the GUS Band on Saturday 19th September at the Performing Arts Centre, Soham Village College, when we will be celebrating the life of David Read. A former Principal Cornet at GUS, David joined the band in 1960, (then still known as the Munn & Felton’s Band) and sat as bumper-up to John Berryman before taking the end seat in 1969 leading the band to its World Championship title in 1970. As a respected educator, adjudicator, player and conductor, he was awarded the MBE in 2018 for services to music and the concert will provide an opportunity to share memories and celebrate his legacy through some of the music that was significant during his life. So, come and join us for what will be a fitting tribute to this respected musician.
